What is CranioSacral Therapy (Christy's Description)
Health is always present within us, and CranioSacral Therapy works to support the underlying health of the whole body-mind system as well as relieving tension and symptoms in the body. The therapist does this by connecting with the central nervous system and the rhythm of the spinal fluid. This reminds the client’s system how to settle and become more still and quiet. It also reminds the client's system of the vast support that is available beyond its usual coping strategies. This helps to create a good foundation for whatever else the person is doing to support themselves. Whether it’s diet, exercise, homeopathy, Chinese medicine or lifestyle – CranioSacral work enables the person to integrate the results more fully with their entire body-mind system.

A Session CranioSacral sessions takes place in the quiet, private calm of the therapy room. At the beginning of the session you are invited to lie down fully-clothed on a massage table. You may wish to share the pain, tension or discomfort that has brought you. When you first lay on the table, you may experience a busy mind, and possibly anxiety or stress that was a part of your day. When I place my hands on your body, I often experience places that feel rigid or solid, or agitation in the system. After a short period of my hands connecting with the nervous system and the rhythm of the spinal fluid and following various movements in the tissue, we both enter a quieter space together. Places that felt hard or stuck begin to soften and spread and melt beneath my hands. It begins to feel more fluid-like and you will relax more. The body starts to feel more connected and whole and will begin to gently release the tension it's been holding. Most people will feel deeply relaxed after a session but you may feel energetic, sleepy, or even a little ‘spacey.’ It's good to allow some time and not have to rush or drive off immediately after the session to integrate what occurred.
Because it's so gentle, CST can be effective for all ages, from newborns to elders.
