About Don Bruce & Somatic Works

Picture

Don Bruce was interested in human nature even as a child. He has a deep desire to understand how human beings tick and how real change, healing, occurs.  In his pursuit of this he has studied psychology, world history, world religion, meditation, and has met various spiritual teachers. In his early thirties he discovered he had a distinct empathic ability to detect what was going on with a person once making physical contact.

His practice consists primarily of Rolfing®, Body Psychology, Craniosacral Therapy, and Therapeutic Bodywork. The focus of his work is to assist you in the process of discovering and healing your body/mind.  He is interested in helping you find your path to lasting change and evolution.

He works from the perspective that there is no separation between body and mind. That our bodies contain all the information needed to heal.  And that our bodies completely contain the history of our personal life and that of our ancestors waiting to be met, released, healed.

His Training
He has been trained in Rolfing, Rolfing Movement, Cranial Sacral Therapy, Skillful Touch Massage, Therapeutic Touch, Healing Touch, Chi Kung, Energy-Body Healing, Trauma Energetics (www.traumaenergetics.com), and has a BA in Psychology. He has been in practice since 1997 and was trained by the Rolf Institute of Structural Integration in Boulder Colorado. www.rolf.org - www.rolfingcanada.org

About Somatic Works
The name of his business comes from the word somatic. Somatic is the relationship between mind and body and how this connection relates to the whole person. He is dedicated to the integration of the whole of you.

Consultation Session

For the first session with a new client he combines the consultation with the first bodywork and or Body-Psychology session. In this way you get informed about what will be done, how it will help your individual needs and you also get a sense for my Bodywork and or Body-Psychology work. For this reason he prefers to have the first session be 90 minutes. After that 60 minutes is usually fine. If you prefer you can simply have a 60 minute consultation session. Generally speaking the 90 min sessions are booked at 9:30 am, 11:30 am or 4:30 pm.

Craniosacral Therapy
Experience the inner peace and solitude of craniosacral Therapy. Craniosacral is a gentle, hands-on technique that evaluates and enhances the function of the craniosacral system. This system is the fluid that rhythmically fills and baths the brain and the Central Nervous System (CNS). It is a technique that balances and refreshes the CNS. It also helps detect and correct imbalances in the craniosacral system, which may be the cause of sensory, motor or intellectual dysfunction. Gentle mobilization of the cranial bones and the fascia (connective tissue throughout the body) affects the function of the nervous and endocrine systems by improving the environment in which these systems do their work. It can be extremely relaxing and rejuvenating.

Rolfing Movement Integration
Experience the joy of movement! Move like never before. See how to have better posture, greater athletic performance and to rehabilitate. Learn how to walk, run, stand, work, and/or do your sport more effectively/efficiently. Get acquainted with your breath, and how trauma is held in the body. Rolfing Movement is a system of movement & embodiment education. The purpose is to increase ease, joy, and efficiency of movement, to develop a more powerful sense of self, and to release the stress caused by "gravity resisting" movement patterns. It is a process of exploration, education, and self-discovery. The work is gentle and non-intrusive. The Rolf Institutes description of Rolfing Movement - www.rolf.org/about/movement

Therapeutic Touch
It is a gentle and energetic form of therapy something like Reiki. It is used to balance chi flow, charkas and the other energy bodies. People choose Therapeutic Touch for pain reduction, relaxation, and the promotion of physical, and emotional healing.

Visceral Manipulation
Experience the relief of Visceral Manipulation. Visceral refers to the organs of the body. It involves releasing tension/trauma being held in such organs as the lungs, liver, kidney, stomach, small and large intestines, bladder and more. The connective tissue of the viscera has strong effects on the structure and function of the body. Releasing fixations in the visceral connective tissue can be very helpful to the Rolfing process and creating relief in your body.
